Health is on our minds as a new year starts. All the extra holiday desserts and drinks (might I add stress?) have us feeling run down and blah and, come January, the resolutions to “finally lose the weight“ are set. With 97 million Americans currently trying to lose weight in the new year, most of us find a weight loss program's “10 pounds in two weeks” promise enticing.
But I need you to stare down all those trendy diets and say "Yea, it's gonna be a no for me dawg." Why, you ask? Because diets ultimately lead to burnout, harm to your mind and body, and weight regain.

New Years resolutions and diets don’t work in the long run: they're too extreme, not maintainable, and leave no room for being human. The idea of perfectly sticking to any one new behavior overnight is unrealistic and sets us up for failure. In the midst of all the misinformation, food rules and detoxes out there, here are some actual food truths:
- No universal “ideal diet” exists
- Food should give us energy and shouldn’t take more than it gives
- Food is essential. We need it in order to live, grow, and survive.
- We need a balance of nutrients: including lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats
- An individualized approach to nutrition is key
- Diets don’t work. Research shows diets leave us more stressed less and less apt to maintain a healthy weight.
In the Name of Good Health
Here’s what I am in favor of:
The ancient Greek physician Hippocrates was spot-on when he advocated food as medicine. Life happens around food, and choosing the best “medicine” can feel complicated. It’s time to not be stumped by what to eat and shift from a one-dimensional idea of nutrition to a more elastic one. I would love to show you how to find normal with food, your body, and your health in the midst of balancing wellness with everyday life.
If you are ready for a health upgrade, then I invite you to schedule your first session today so we can begin the journey together. You will learn how to make lasting changes to all facets of your health (mental + physical + emotional) and walk away with personalized tools to live out your healthiest, happiest life.
So, my friend, Happy 2019! Here’s to fresh starts and a whole new year brimming with vibrant possibilities.
To your best life!
Hope
- making small changes that build over time, leading to big improvements in your overall health
- addressing the root cause(s) of why we’re unhealthy in the first place
- having support: finding encouragement in a community that uplifts you along the way
- getting back to the basics by eating real, whole food that’s delicious + nutritious + quick to pull together
- being human! We have ups and downs in this journey toward health. Learning how to navigate forward is everything in the name of good health.
